Human Kindness - An Isolation Birthday

Human Kindness #13: An Isolation Birthday

URGENT NOTICE: I am running low on kindness stories. Have you witnessed something wonderful recently? Do you know of something kind somebody has done for you or somebody else? Have YOU done something lovely that you are yet to share? PLEASE SHARE IT. Your stories are vital in keeping this series running!

Welcome back to Human Kindness! If you haven’t already, please check out Human Kindness: Introduction for the background to this blog series! These stories are NOT all my own, they have been submitted to me for the purpose of this series and are a collection from some of the kindest people I know or who have contacted me to share their story.

I am ALWAYS on the lookout for kindness stories, so please do get in touch if you have one, there is a chance for you to submit yours at the end of this post (and I will always keep them anonymous). As always, if you’d like to receive these stories directly to your inbox every Monday morning, sign up to the mailing list at the end of this post.

“On my birthday last year, we were in lockdown and I, unfortunately, had COVID. I live with somebody vulnerable and I was so afraid of giving it to them that I isolated in my bedroom for 17 days, just to be sure I was rid of it. I really struggled mentally and as everybody who has isolated will know, it was extremely difficult and lonely to be stuck in my room whilst also feeling poorly.

I was still isolating for my birthday and feeling pretty crappy about the whole thing, when a delivery arrived for me. My mum brought it to outside my bedroom door for me to collect, and it was a box of gifts from my friends for my birthday. There were so many thoughtful gifts as well as a virtual event that I could do every day for the next week to keep me occupied, and it really gave me some structure to my days.

It was the most amazing, kind, and thoughtful gift and just what I needed to get my head back together. I felt so grateful to have such caring friends and it really boosted my spirits during what felt like such a rubbish time.”

Have you experienced an act of kindness recently? Maybe you have done something for somebody that you haven’t yet shared for fear of being judged to be “bragging” or you have been on the receiving end of a kindness that somebody has shown you. My inbox is ALWAYS open for your kindness stories so please submit them!

Stories will be treated with discretion and published anonymously at all times, and I will share as much or as little information as you wish. Message me using the form below and I’ll be sure to feature your story in an upcoming post.
